The Master of Actuarial Studies (MActSt) allows graduates to obtain and develop the required competencies to commence a career in the actuarial and financial services industry, through the quantitative risk management training offered within the program.

The MActSt is recognised by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, Institute of Actuaries (UK) and the Society of Actuaries (USA). It also covers the Part II courses of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and provides advanced training in quantitative risk management.

The program consists of 12 courses which is made up of 4 core courses plus 8 options. It covers Part I, Part II courses, risk management and other options. Students can include up to 2 modules of Part III of IAAust exams passed while completing the MActSt.

In the actuarial studies department, I taught Financial Economics for Insurance and Superannuation, a Masters class subject accredited by the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (3 hours a week from 6 to 9pm). The aim of this course is to introduce the mathematical and economic models of financial economics and highlight their application to asset-liability management for insurance, superannuation and funds management. This subject is based on textbooks: “Investment Science” by David Luenberger and “Financial Calculus” by Baxter and Rennie. Outstanding teaching report obtained.
